Verizon and AT&T Prepare For War Over Standards of Network Reliability

Last week, AT&T published a press release that states recently commissioned third-party studies found its 4G LTE network to be the nation’s most reliable. The only issue with that, is Verizon has long-touted its network as America’s most reliable. So, the question is, who truly has the most reliable network? Is the claim simply a slogan used by Verizon to attract customers or part of a very large and ongoing marketing ploy? According to a full page ad put out by Verizon in the Wall Street Journal, while others claim to meet certain levels of reliability, Verizon continues to set the standard for reliability. (more…)

AT&T Claims to Have the Most Reliable 4G LTE Network in the Country

Any follower of the mobile industry knows that all of the major US carriers like to brag about their network being the best at this or the fastest at that. AT&T has long had the reputation for dropping calls and having a somewhat unreliable service, but today, Big Blue announced that according to an independent third-party surveyor, it has the most reliable 4G LTE network in the country. T-Mobile Announces “JUMP!” as New Phone Upgrade Policy, Lights Up 116th LTE Market, Intros Sony Xperia Z

T-Mobile is still on stage in New York at the time of writing this, unveiling all sorts of new company initiatives, but since the press release for it all has already gone live, let’s talk about it. We’ve got four big things to discuss: their new JUMP! phone upgrade policy, the launch of their 116th 4G LTE market, a new family option, and the release of the Sony Xperia Z on their network. AT&T Tells Us to “Get Ready for What’s Next in Wireless” on July 16

AT&T has something planned for July 16, at least that’s what a new teaser image that arrived in our inbox states. It doesn’t necessarily claim that an event is on the horizon, only that we should “get ready for what’s next in wireless.” That could mean an announcement of new LTE markets, new phones (maybe the Moto X?), a music service in partnership with Beats Audio (yes, that’s a rumor floating around out there), or something completely out of the ordinary like AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega figuring out that he can shave wirelessly without having his electric razor plugged into the wall.

Sprint Buyout Set For July 10 Completion, Company Looks to Match Verizon’s High-Speed Coverage Within Two Years

With SoftBank’s acquisition of Sprint set for completion on July 10, to the tune of $21.6 billion, SoftBank’s president is already talking investment plans for America’s third-ranked mobile carrier. Seeking approval to invest some $16 billion into Sprint’s network, Masayoshi Son looks to beat out AT&T and match Verizon’s high-speed network (4G LTE) coverage within just two years. (more…)

AT&T Fires Up 35 New 4G LTE Markets

It has been some time since we have seen a light up of this many 4G LTE markets at the same time, but it sure is exciting. This morning, AT&T announced 35 new LTE markets, bringing their market count total to somewhere around 350. The markets span from the East to West coasts and are also sprouting up in the Virgin Islands.

Thursday Poll: Are You Covered by Verizon’s 4G LTE Network?

This morning, Verizon announced that the build-out of their 4G LTE network is “substantially complete” and that it covers 99% of their 3G network. This news comes right on schedule with what Big Red told us earlier in the year, but even though they claim to be 99% of the way there, we are still hearing from some readers who are still only in 3G territories. So to get a feel for Verizon’s coverage, at least in the DL community, we thought we’d toss out a poll to get your feedback.

Verizon’s First LTE-Only Phones to Launch Late Next Year, Along With VoLTE

Verizon’s completion of their 4G LTE rollout means big things for next year’s roadmap, according to a recent discussion with the carrier’s Chief Network Operator, Nicki Palmer. Shooting for a time frame of late 2014, Verizon intends to launch its first line of LTE-only devices, capable of handling simultaneous voice and data through a single radio, something that Verizon’s users have been without for some time.
