A mystery Motorola phone stopped off at the FCC (ID IHDT56UC2) a couple of days ago looking like a phone that could be the company’s next unlocked flagship. I say that because the phone is slightly bigger than the DROID Turbo, supports almost every single LTE band (sans Verizon’s), 802.11ac MIMO WiFi, carrier aggregation (LTE Advanced), and works with Motorola’s Turbo Charger. Verizon’s XLTE Hits 1-Year Anniversary, Adds Six New Markets
Just over a year ago, we exclusively reported that Verizon was going to put to use their AWS spectrum (band 4 LTE) in markets across the country to double the 4G LTE bandwidth of their current network and improve speeds in areas that were starting to suffer from heavy amounts of traffic. We reported then that they would call this major upgrade XLTE. A week after our report, Verizon confirmed the news by launching XLTE in more than 250 markets across the US.
So here we are exactly 1-year from the launch of XLTE and Verizon has some info to share, along with a few new markets to introduce. (more…)

T-Mobile Introduces Crowd-Sourced Coverage Map
This morning, T-Mobile announced that it has taken its Uncarrier approach to coverage maps. What does that mean? Well, they are ditching the “predictive coverage estimations” that other carriers use to show network availability and are instead using crowdsourced, customer-verified network connections to show how far their network reaches. LG Announces LTE Version of Its Watch Urbane, Ditches Android Wear
Remember that brand new all-metal, “luxury” watch that LG unveiled a week or so ago, called Watch Urbane? Forget about it. They have a new one! It’s still called Watch Urbane, but this one has LTE, a big ol’ battery, three buttons instead of one, and a full 1GB of RAM. Oh, it also ditched Android Wear for LG’s own wearable platform. Motorola Announces the New Moto E With 4G LTE and Other Upgrades, Available Now for $150
Motorola’s mystery announcement is official, and like we imagined the other day, it is the new Moto E. This time, though, it has 4G LTE, upgrades all around, and an even lower price. I know, how is that possible?
Where do we begin…how about with the upgrades? The new Moto E now has 4G LTE, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, slightly bigger 4.5-inch display (still qHD), front facing camera, 2390mAh battery, and runs stock Android 5.0 “Lollipop” with Moto’s suite of useful apps on top. We are talking the best features from the Moto X, like Moto Display and Quick Capture Camera. Seriously, it has those two features now. The new Moto E is like a mini-Moto X. (more…)

Sprint is Launching 20+ New 4G LTE Markets on February 19
On February 19, at least according to a Sprint’s recently updated list of 4G LTE markets, Sprint customers should see 4G LTE connections in 20+ new markets, including Washington DC, Vail, Colorado, and Maui, Hawaii.
Previous additions to Sprint’s growing LTE market list went live in December and October, so this is the first new batch of 2015. (more…)

Verizon Once Again Dominates RootMetrics’ Latest Carrier Report, T-Mobile Falls to Sprint
RootMetrics, a company who takes network performance serious enough to “distill” thousands of “independent, consumer-focused” tests to measure and rank them, published their 2nd Half 2014 US carrier network report yesterday afternoon. The results, well, aren’t all that different from their first half results, other than the fact that T-Mobile dropped to fourth place behind Sprint for overall performance. Verizon Confirms ALLSET Prepaid Bump to 1GB at $45
Update: Verizon confirmed today that their ALLSET prepaid plan now includes 1GB of data, up from 500MB. The 1GB comes as a part of the $45 base plan, which includes full 4G LTE and XLTE speeds – there isn’t a speed difference, even though this is prepaid.
Back in July, Verizon added 4G LTE connectivity to its newish ALLSET prepaid plan. The much-anticipated move gave customers access to Big Red’s high-speed 4G LTE network for as little as $45 per month without a contract. At $45, customers were given a base data package of 500MB along with unlimited talk and text. At some point within the last week the deal got sweeter, with Verizon quietly bumping that base data package up to a full 1GB. (more…)
