  • Verizon 4G LTE is Officially Live, It’s About to get Awesome

“The largest 4G LTE network on the planet” officially launched from Verizon yesterday and will likely be talked about in waves on this site over the next few months.  While we’re pretty sure there won’t be any 4G LTE Android devices hitting stores in 2010, you can bet your life savings on them showing up in the first part of 2011.  We’ve already seen sneak peaks at handsets from LG, HTC and Motorola that blew our minds, so I think it’s fair to say that things are about to get really awesome around here.

To prepare yourselves, you may want to look back at all of the 4G LTE coverage we’ve had going on around here.  Since there has already been a ton, we’ve hand picked a few posts that will make you an expert for when those devices actually do launch:

Need to know anything else?  Getting excited?

  • 5GB Verizon 4G LTE Data Limit Crushed in 32 Minutes?

This report came out early yesterday, but we wanted to make sure all of you 4G LTE awaitees saw it.  The crew over at PCMag had a couple of the 4G modems from Verizon and put them through a series of tests to see how fast the service is and to see if those 5GB and 10GB limits are enough to last you through an entire month.  Well the results are in, and according to their speed tests, you could possibly burn through a 5GB limit in about 32 minutes.   (more…)

  • Wednesday Poll: Thoughts on Verizon’s 4G LTE Network?

All the talk today has been about Verizon’s 4G LTE network that will go live starting Sunday, December 5th in 38 major cities (press release) and we just want to know your thoughts on it.  There have been numerous articles written throughout the tech world suggesting that all of the “4G” networks across the country aren’t true 4G, but for us, that hasn’t lessened our excitement over it.  We just can’t wait to see the speeds on the new set of Android devices that we’re expecting some time in 2011 and could care less what the network is called.

But what about you?  Is the “4G” tag bothering you like it seems to be to so many others?  Are you just excited to see the new devices that will dominate our lives with ridiculous speeds?  Should we call it something else?  Let us know in the comments!

  • Verizon Makes 4G LTE Official, Available Starting December 5th

You already knew that this was happening on December 5th because you read this blog, but Verizon just made the date officially official with a new 4G LTE dedicated website.  We’ll be hearing a full run down in just a few minutes through VZW’s LTE press call, but wanted to let you know that you can start digging through all that is 4G LTE right now.

Check out the map and any other details you had questions on at this site.

  • Verizon 4G LTE Launching on December 5th or 6th

Verizon notified media this morning that they will hold a press event tomorrow to discuss the rollout and launching of their 4G LTE service before the end of 2010.  We were tipped to a December 6th go live date originally, but now have further confirmation from additional sources that it’ll be either on the 5th or the 6th.  And as you’ll see from the document above, 4G LTE modems will start going on-sale in stores on the 5th. Now if only that page could have also displayed the Incredible HD, life would have been really good.

    Cheers money!

  • Verizon Schedules 4G LTE Press Conference for Tomorrow, Launching December 6th?

Verizon pinged us this morning with word that they will have a press conference tomorrow (December 1st) at 12 EST with Tony Melone, senior vice president and chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, who will detail the company’s major 4G LTE network launch.

From the beginning, Big  Red has held strong on an “end of year” launch and our sources have reached out to tell us to expect Tony to announce that 4G LTE will go live on December 6th which is next Monday.  We haven’t heard if that means all markets or a select few to begin with, but the time is definitely now.

If only we could get some 4G LTE Android devices…none are expected before January.

  • Monday Night Poll: Which is more important to you? 4G, Tegra 2 or Android 2.3?

Wanted to slip in a late night poll to give you all something to talk about as the night moves forward and you continue to browse your favorite TV programs for Droid appearances.  If you had to choose between having a 4G LTE device, a phone with a Tegra 2 processor, or one that ran Android 2.3, what would you take?  And you can’t take all 3 at once, you have to pick one and tell us why it’s more important than the others.   Is it the network speed that draws you in?  What about the sheer beastlyness of a processor?  Or maybe it’s just having the newest Android build?

I basically just gave you an assignment for the night…damn me.
