    Qualcomm’s Reveals the Snapdragon 820 With Adreno 530 GPU, Quick Charge 3.0, More

    This morning, Qualcomm revealed the full details of its new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 820. With this latest mobile chipset, Qualcomm set out to create a technology that was “holistically designed around enriching visual quality and audio clarity.” That’s marketing speak for a powerful graphics processing unit (GPU), better image processing, and better audio out of a phone’s speakers. It also ups the game in terms of quick charging, has faster download/upload speeds than previous chipsets, and 2x the performance of the the Snapdragon 810. (more…)

    Sprint Announces 4G LTE for 279 Underground Subway Stations in NYC

    Sprint is bringing 4G LTE to 279 underground subway stations in the NYC area, according to an announcement made this week. With the project set to be completed by 2017, these underground stations serve 6 millions riders per day, and any of those riders who use Sprint will be able to access their digital lives from under the streets during a commute.  (more…)

    AT&T Launches 4G LTE in Mexico

    AT&T made it clear within the last year that it wants to take over the wireless scene in Mexico, it seems, after acquiring Iusacell and Nextel Mexico. To further that thought, the company announced that 40 million people in Mexico are now covered by its 4G LTE network.  (more…)

    Verizon 5G Goes Into Field Testing in 2016

    I understand that your phone finally has a stable 4G LTE connection that doesn’t destroy its battery in four hours, but it’s time to look beyond and into 5G. Verizon 5G is almost here, sort of. The company announced today that it will begin field testing its 5G technology with key partners come 2016.

    Companies like Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung are already on board and working to “ensure an aggressive pave of innovation.” These companies (along with others over time, I’d assume) will take to Verizon’s Innovation Centers to collaborate and share ideas in order to help get 5G ready for you and I. If they can make enough progress, Verizon will begin field testing 5G in 2016. 2016 is next year, by the way.  (more…)

    Verizon Lights Up XLTE in Six New Markets

    Depending on how long you have been reading DL, you may recall a while back when we would write up weekly announcement posts of when new 4G LTE markets would light up across the US. Seeing as how it’s mid-2015, those posts don’t happen anymore, as Verizon’s rollout of LTE was complete some time ago.

    Now, we have Big Red lighting up XLTE, aka their AWS spectrum (band 4 LTE), available in six new markets according to today’s announcement. (more…)

    Moto X Pure Edition Does Indeed Work on All US Carriers, Including Verizon

    During today’s live press event from Motorola, the company announced that its new Moto X Pure Edition was an unlocked phone that worked on all of the major US carriers, including Verizon. People were excited at the thought of buying a phone for $399 that could be taken to any carrier of choice. That excitement died quickly, though, when Motorola posted official specs for the phone and left out any mention of Verizon’s CDMA bands or its LTE band 13.  (more…)

    T-Mobile continued its Uncarrier Amped movement this morning by going after its own family plan. Starting tomorrow, T-Mobile customers will be able to choose a new family plan that can get a family of four up to 10GB per line for just $120.  (more…)
