  • Verizon’s Samsung 4G LTE Device will be called the DROID CHARGE

Word leaked out of Costco this morning that Verizon’s Samsung 4G LTE device would be DROID-branded, but for some reason still contained the name “Stealth.”  We’ve been told for almost a month now that “Stealth” was just a codename, and with a second confirmation on the official name coming within the last hour or so, we are ready to roll with it.  The device at launch should be called the DROID CHARGE, unless of course something dramatically changes over the next few weeks.

We still aren’t exactly sure how we feel about Samsung joining the DROID family, but at least people can stop calling it the Stealth now.

    Cheers Z!

  • Monday Poll: Does a DROID-branded Samsung Phone Interest You?

There is an above average chance that Verizon’s Samsung 4G LTE device will end up with DROID branding on it, making this our next family member.  We’re just wondering if that is a good thing or not?  We all know how Sammie did with the Froyo update to their Galaxy S line of phones (Fascinate still doesn’t have it by the way), so it’s only fair for many of us to be skeptical of anything else they release.  And with this phone more than likely running Android 2.2 out of the box, you know people will be crying for Gingerbread from day 1.  It’ll be rockin’ a beautiful 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen, HDMI-out, front-rear cameras, and no Bing, but will that be enough to get you excited?  Are you interested in a DROID-branded Samsung device?

Here is our hands-on with the device.  And how it compares to the other 4G LTE phones.

  • HTC Thunderbolt Hands-on Gallery

Well, there it is.  The HTC Thunderbolt is finally available and while I’ve had zero time to really play with it, you can’t deny its beauty.  Here is a quick gallery to show off those magical curves and that big shiny 4.3″ Super LCD screen.

Everyone loving their new phone?   (more…)

  • Verizon’s 4G LTE on the HTC Thunderbolt, What Speeds are you Seeing?

If you picked up an HTC Thunderbolt and live in a 4G LTE area, I’d love to see what sorts of speeds you are seeing while using the SpeedTest.net app.  As you can see from the shots above, many of our readers are seeing out of this world upload  speeds with some very impressive download marks as well.  You almost have to think that the SpeedTest.net app is broken, because these numbers are mindbogglingly good.  Any chance that Verizon uncapped the uploads on purpose after finding out that AT&T is capping theirs?  We’re not sure, but we’d love to see your numbers!  Feel free to drop them in the comments.

  • Verizon Data-only 4G Plan Changing on March 25 from Unlimited to 5GB for $49.99?

As you all know, the HTC Thunderbolt just rolled out today and we’re getting a taste of the first 4G LTE data plans.  One thing to note, is that VZW is offering non-contracted customers a $49.99 data package which according to the email above, is unlimited at this time.  Great news, right?  Well, it could be changing on 3/25 (next Friday).  While the email above doesn’t specifically say it, we’re hearing that it will drop to a 5GB limited plan, but early adopters of this data package should be able to keep theirs unlimited if they jump on it now.

Sort of an odd post, I know.  The email doesn’t provide a ton of information, but if you are interested in the non-contracted data package, we wanted to make sure that you at least asked your local VZW rep about it.

To clarify, this has nothing to do with the $29.99 unlimited plan that comes with a 2-year contract.  All signs point to that sticking around for at least a few months.  This is something separate.

    Cheers JFMFT!

  • HTC Thunderbolt is Live on Verizon’s Site!

It’s live everyone!  Go get yourself the first 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon, the HTC Thunderbolt.  You can grab one today for $179 at Amazon on a 2-year contract or at a variety of different prices directly from VZW.  It may only have a single-core processor, but trust me when I say that it’s no slouch.  This was in our top 2 at CES back in January and still ranks up there today.  It’s about time.  Hype. Beast.

    Buy.

  • HTC Thunderbolt Finally Announced by Verizon, Available 3/17 for $249 on Contract

After somehow making it through 8,000 denied delays, 1,800 rumored release dates, battery issues, Skype removals, and 100,000 angry trolls, Verizon’s first 4G LTE device is ready to be placed in your pocket.  The HTC Thunderbolt has been announced and to no one’s surprise is $249 on a new 2-year contract.  Data plans will hit the $29.99 mark, just like we said they would months ago, but we have to assume they won’t be that cheap for long.  Skype was not mentioned in the release and from what we can tell will not be ready Thursday when the device goes on-sale.  Are there battery issues?  Not that anyone is going to tell us about.  Now, breathe for a second.

One cool thing to note is that the 8-device hotspot feature is free until May 15, but will be at least $20 a month after that.

Everyone still interested in this device after all that we’ve been through?

Full press release after the break.   (more…)

  • Verizon Site Looks to be Preparing for a Thunderbolt Announcement (Updated)

New front page image on Verizon’s website is what you are seeing above.  All talk today centered around Thursday, March 17 as a legit launch date for the HTC Thunderbolt and this would be a sign that they are preparing for an announcement.  If you click on the “Learn More” button, it just pushes you onto the Thunder Tracker page with no new info.  This really is like a lightning countdown…

Update:  HTCSense.com seems to be mysteriously down.  Related? (Cheers @joeydnj!)

Update 2:  The phone has been announced.  Finally.

    Cheers @rusty_richards!
