Light Flow Updated With New Features for Android 4.3

Light Flow, one of the most powerful notification light tools on Android, received an update this morning to introduce new features that work with Android 4.3. In the update, LF allows you to swipe away notifications, remotely clear notifications by reading them on other devices, and “handle” restricted profiles for tablet users.

Outside of the 4.3 stuff, support for Gmail folders, incoming calls, and the new Skype app were added. HTC One root users should have a better experience, plus the app now has the power to exclude notifications from sleep mode. The LF team also added support for an additional 72 apps. (more…)

Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions Get Android 4.3

Over the weekend, owners of Google Play Edition of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 started seeing Android 4.3 hit their devices, only about a week after the newest version of the OS was announced. Android 4.3 (still Jelly Bean) didn’t bring too much in terms of features, but did pack in Bluetooth Smart, autocomplete for the dialer and a virtual surround sound driver for compatible devices.

If you own one of these devices and have yet to update, what are you waiting for? Head into Settings > about phone > system update and grab Android 4.3.

Original Nexus 7 Performance Issues Possibly Fixed Thanks to Android 4.3

Thanks to an update to Android 4.3, the original Nexus 7 may welcome in a new life with less lag and better performance. According to Brian Klug from AnandTech, the 4.3 update “enabled support for fstrim, an application which TRIMs blocks not in use by the filesystem.” In other words, your original Nexus 7 that has been terribly slow for months will now manage storage properly and potentially present an experience like you would expect all of the time. Hidden “App Ops” Feature in Android 4.3 Lets You Selectively Disable Permissions From Apps

Hidden not-so-deep inside of Android 4.3’s settings activities, you’ll find an interesting new addition called App Ops that appears to be a work-in-progress setting for letting users manage permissions of apps with more control. You can access App Ops using an app that allows for shortcut making of activities, or you can download a handy app called Permission Manager (link below) that was recently created to access this menu on the fly. Photo Sphere Software Gets Major Improvement in Android 4.3

As detailed in a Google+ post from Googler Evan Rapoport, the Photo Sphere team worked exceptionally hard to make the software work much better on compatible devices running Android 4.3. Stitching and exposure were always a bit off, but according to Rapoport, a lot of the issues that were found in the initial software have been resolved. (more…)

Video: Relive the Nexus 7, Chromecast and Android 4.3 Announcement

If you couldn’t catch yesterday’s magic, with the unveiling of the new Nexus 7, Chromecast and Android 4.3, Google has gone ahead and made the event replay-able via YouTube. The video lasts just a little over an hour, but it’s nice to watch Sundar and Hugo do their thing onstage. Download: Android 4.3 OTA Updates for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Galaxy Nexus

During Google’s Android and Chrome event that took place yesterday in San Francisco, Hugo Barra announced that most of the their Nexus family of phones would start seeing OTA updates to Android 4.3 almost immediately. That list includes the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus (GSM). But while these updates technically started yesterday, we know that almost everything involving software at Google these days happens in stages, so you may not be prompted to update for some time. First Android 4.3 ROM Built From Source Available for Download to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus

We read the comments in posts and clearly there was a lot of people wondering when Android 4.3 would hit the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. Of course, this isn’t an official build, but a developer has already released a built-from-source Android 4.3 ROM for the rooted users. Taken straight from Google’s servers with some added tweaks to make the ROM work, this is pretty much what exactly would be rolled out from Verizon.
