    The Toast wood cover company in Portland, OR is hard at work, trying to make more cases available for a variety of different devices. The newest case to be made is available is for the Moto G, which is actually Motorola’s most successful device of all time according to the Illinois-based manufacturer. Toast wood covers are 100% made in the United States, with a very small portion of materials (Ebony and Bamboo wood) coming from overseas.

    The cases start out at just $25, with four different wood options to choose from – Walnut, Ash, Bamboo, and Ebony. Front wood covers are also sold separately for an additional $10. Buyers can choose to have custom text added to their design, priced at $5.  (more…)

    Motorola Device With AT&T LTE Bands Stops by FCC, is It a 4G LTE Moto G?

    A mystery Motorola device stopped by the FCC recently under number IHDT56PG1. That number doesn’t tell us much, but we do know that it has a 2000mAh battery inside and supports LTE on AT&T’s network. Are we potentially looking at a Moto G for AT&T with LTE on board? Tough to tell, but maybe.

    According to a reddit user who spotted the listing, the battery number listed in the FCC filing matches that of the Moto G, SNN5932A. While I can’t confirm the number without ripping apart my Moto G, I will say that the FCC filing says 2000mAh battery, whereas the Moto G actually has a 2070mAh battery inside.  (more…)

    Moto G Now Available Through US Cellular for $99 After Instant Rebate

    Budget-minded customers can grab the Moto G on US Cellular online starting today and in retail stores starting February 10. The device will only cost $99 off contract thanks to an instant rebate of $90, so that’s not a bad deal. The device is available through US Cellular’s “No Contract” plans, which includes unlimited voice, messaging, and data for only $50 per month.  (more…)

    Verizon’s Moto G Now Receiving Update to Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat”

    The Moto G from Verizon is receiving its update to Android 4.4.2 “Kit Kat” as you read this. The update actually started rolling out yesterday, but Verizon just now published the support documents to show all that is involved. There aren’t any surprises, however, the update is pretty significant.

    Once updated, you’ll find all sorts of goodies that were introduced by Google with Kit Kat. For example, full-screen “Immersive” mode is there, as is Hangouts as the default SMS app. You’ll also find a new dialer application, better photo editor, and cloud printing built into the OS.

    Motorola CEO Hints at $50 Smartphone, Customizing Items Like Display Size in High-end Devices

    Outside of being a huge Droid Life fan, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside is also good for a headline-grabbing quote or two when it comes to future products from his company. In an interview with Trusted Reviews, Woodside said that he thinks there is a price point well below the Moto G at $179 that can be reached. He also mentioned that when it comes to customization, options for screen size and additional functionality will arrive in the “next year or so.”

    Let’s tackle this new lower cost bit first, since the Moto G seems to be the hot topic of the moment these days. Woodside said that even at $179, the Moto G is still a “lot of money” in much of the world, so they are going to push for an even lower cost phone, potentially at around $50. Think about that for a second – a smartphone at $50 without a contract. And if this newly assembled Motorola is behind it, after seeing some of the magic they worked with the Moto G, I’d imagine it will be worth a look.  (more…)

    Interview: Motorola Talks Big 2013 Moments, Choice, Value, a Love for Stock Android, and the Future

    During last week’s CES, I had a chance to sit down with Motorola executives Steve Horowitz (SVP software engineering) and William Moss (director of corporate communications) to talk the year that was, what they took away from all that happened in 2013, their thoughts on wearables, and where we are headed in 2014. Our chat was a brief 30 minutes, but we managed to cruise through all sorts of topics including how they managed to update the Moto X to Kit Kat in under three weeks.

    I think you’ll notice a theme quickly emerging throughout that most of you will all be fans of:  Motorola wants to do more of the same, which means continuing to provide value and choice with a stock Android experience anchoring it all. While they wouldn’t give up their roadmap for 2014 (don’t worry I tried to get it), I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll see MotoMaker stick around, new choices of materials will be a part of the scheme, new features will be added onto their suite of Touchless Control and Active Display, and prices will remain as good as ever.
