  • Apple’s Comparison of the iPad Mini to the Nexus 7, What a Joke.

If you joined us during our live chat of the Apple iPad mini event, then you probably saw the point of the presentation where Phil Schiller compared the new smaller iPad to Google’s Nexus 7. He went through slide after slide, clever quote after clever quote, to trash the Nexus 7 in as many ways as possible, all while touting the new iPad as a far superior product. The thing is, at $329 and with a bigger display, the comparison doesn’t make any sense. We have seen Apple play their childish comparison game with fake stats and their own made-up buzzwords numerous times in the past, but this has got to be the worst one yet.  (more…)

Speculation has run high, but The Next Web claims to have confirmed all of the details, some of which is new, most of which isn’t. According to their source who was privy to a secret Google video that was being passed around, that details the event. So what are we expecting?  (more…)

  • This Guy Appears to Have Walked Out of Staples With a 32GB Nexus 7 in Hand

Lucky, lucky, man. The 32GB Nexus 7, that has received more coverage than an A-Rod phone number on baseball to Australian bikini model scandal, is available in limited quantities at some Staples stores. Most stores are not going to sell you one until the 29th, however, one lucky reader of ours appears to have worked some magic today when he got off work. Having purchased an 8GB model on 10/14, he returned it today in exchange for the new 32GB version, which as expected, retails for $249.

Who’s jealous of all that storage?  (more…)

  • You May be Able to Order a 32GB Nexus 7 From Staples Today (Updated)

Aren’t interested in waiting for Google to announce the new Nexus 7 with 32GB of storage on October 29 in NYC? You may be able to order one from Staples, today.

One of our readers took the item number that leaked over the last week (#100604), contacted their sales department, and was able to purchase the device. As you can see from the order sheet above and the shipping info below, it has already left the shipping center and should arrive on his doorstep by October 22.

If you listened to the first episode of The Droid Life Show, then you probably heard us first report that some shipments were already arriving at distribution centers on 10/17, with mass shipments hitting locations on 11/7. What I’m saying, is that it is possible to order a new Nexus 7 today, because some locations do indeed have a few in stock.

Our reader started a chat with support through the Staples website and was then transferred to sales. Feel free to give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

Update:  Our reader said he just received a call from Staples, informing him that they had to cancel his order due to contract details with Google. He was told that he could re-order on October 29.

  • Retailer Listing for GSM Capable Nexus 7 Gives Us Some Hope

According to all of the Nexus 7 talk as of late, Google does seem to have big plans for their tablet line as we head into Q4. Talks of a 32GB model, a $99 variant, along with a possible 3G-packed version. Could it be? As seen in a leaked retailer listing, a Nexus 7 with GSM and WCDMA connectivity does exist, but it’s hard to tell if this is real or will ever be made available. Basically, it’s just too early to tell.  (more…)

  • Use Your United MileagePlus Points to Buy a 32GB Nexus 7 Today

Look, the 32GB Nexus 7 is real, there is no denying that at this point. So rather than posting up screenshots from every retailer on the planet to show that it’s coming for the 100th time, we thought we would pass along this screenshot from United’s MileagePlus rewards program that lists the device as being available for order. If you have 49,000 Award Miles, you can order this bad boy today and receive it in 10 business days.

On a related note, we have seen shipping screenshots from distributors that show fulfillment as early as 10/17 (today), with most big shipments arriving on 11/7. I’d say the first week of November is your launch week.

And remember, that Andy Rubin is going to be on stage at AllThingsD’s conference to talk shop. Most of us are assuming that Google will hold a press conference some time around his appearance to unveil the LG Nexus 4. I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced this 32GB Nexus 7 as well.

  • UK Retailer Confirms 32GB Nexus 7 for the Holidays

A couple of weeks ago, we broke news over a 32GB Nexus 7 that was headed to UK retailers. Since then, numerous reports have come out to solidify that report, but today’s might be the nail in the coffin. UK retailer Argos released its Christmas shopping guide this week that includes a listing for the new 32GB Nexus 7. It’s listed at £199.99, the same price as the current 16GB model. I’d say there is a good chance that the 16GB model disappears after all.
