Three Reasons Why the Kindle Fires Should Be Considered Android Tablets [Opinion]

Ever since the original Kindle Fire was released last year there has been some controversy about whether or not to consider Amazon’s tablets to be Android tablets. While Amazon has always admitted that the products run a forked version of Android and Android apps, the Android community was quick to distance themselves from the product despite its record sales. While Amazon likes to talk about Fire apps and doesn’t talk about the version of Android running underneath the Fire interface in any of their official documentation, I believe the Kindle Fire should be considered an Android tablet.

Retailer Shows 32GB Version of the Nexus 7 to Cost £199, Same as 16GB

According to the above image leaked from a UK retailer, it looks like the 32GB Nexus 7 will indeed retail for the same price as the 16GB variant, at least in this case. Previously, it was still in speculation that the 32GB would straight up replace the 16GB model, but this definitely adds some credibility to the claims.

And to those 16GB buyers that feel cheated, who knows, maybe Google will find a way to make it up to you.

16GB Nexus 7 Reaching “End of Life” Status, to be Replaced by 32GB Variant?

According to a screen grab on a re-seller’s site, the 16GB Nexus 7 is on “EOL” or End of Life status. But don’t worry, as we can see in the small red text, it will be replaced by the Nexus 7 1B32, which could certainly be a 32GB variant of the tablet. Since it’s being marked as a direct replacement, does that mean it will stay at the same $250 price as the previous version? That’s sort of what we’ve considered in previous posts, but this certainly lends more credibility to it.

Android 4.1.2 Rolls Out to Nexus 7 – Brings Landscape Mode and Performance Improvements

All within the last hour, Android 4.1.2 has been announced and now it is officially rolling out to Nexus 7 tablets. It hasn’t reached ours yet which means it is most likely being sent out in small batches, so don’t worry, it will come. The update brings a new landscape mode for the tablet, improves stability and performance, along with some minor bug fixes.

The update size is 31.3MB.

32GB Nexus 7 Appears in the Wild

With rumors of a 32GB Nexus 7 going rampant last week, could the above image finally settle the deal? It comes from a Twitter user who says he was mistakenly sent a 32GB variant when he had first put in an order for a 16GB model. The device shipped in a 16GB box, so it’s being reported as a large mistake on the manufacturer’s part. From what we can clearly see in the picture, the available memory after what the OS consumes is 27.58GB.

So we’re basically back to the same questions – when, where, and how much?

32GB Nexus 7 Shows Up on Reseller Site, Could Ship October 24

Yesterday, we showed you a screenshot from a Carphone Warehouse store that listed out a 32GB version of the Nexus 7, giving the world hope that Google was preparing another model of their popular Android tablet. Today, one of our readers noticed that in a purchasing system of theirs, that a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 was also listed, prompting them to call their reseller to find out more details. (more…)
