  • Google Gesture Search Updated – Works on Nexus 7, UI Improvements, and Faster Performance

Google updated their Gesture Search app this morning, making it compatible with tablets such as the Nexus 7. They also improved performance, tweaked the UI, allow for custom actions on contacts, make searching for contacts without phone numbers a reality, and more.

One thing to keep in mind, is that Gesture Search is a great option for those who have had their on-device search killed thanks to lawsuits with Apple.

  • Wednesday Poll: Would You Buy a 32GB Nexus 7?

This morning, we saw an inventory screenshot that points to the possibility of a 32GB Nexus 7 model. We’ve already been over the benefits of having the additional storage space, so now it’s time for us to ask how many of you would actually drop dough for this device. With most Nexus 7 owners already pleased with their 8GB and 16GB variants, is releasing a 32GB option necessary from Google and ASUS?

On top of this, how much would it go for? As far as speculation goes, my guess would be about $299 given their already in-place pricing structure – another $50 for double the storage of the 16GB model sounds fair to me. Or, as Kellex has pointed out, maybe we could see a price drop in the previous models and the 32GB option would be sold for $249. Lots to think about.

Let us know if a 32GB Nexus 7 is interesting you.

  • Carphone Warehouse Expecting a 32GB Nexus 7?

What was and probably still is the biggest complaint over the Nexus 7? Storage. With 8GB and 16GB models as your two options, and no microSD slot to allow you to add to that, many of you have had to find ways to obsessively manage your storage for the first time on a smart device. One or two TV shows downloaded plus an HD level game, and 8GB is gone in minutes, especially since 2.5GB is taken up by the system.Well, what if a 32GB version was finally on the way?  (more…)

  • Rumor: Google to Introduce $99 Nexus 7 by End of Year

In a new report out of DigiTimes, that Asus has already denied, the publication claims that Google and Asus are teaming up to create a new Nexus 7 tablet priced at $99. The device is said to be thinner and will use new display panels. There will reportedly be a second model as well, priced at $199. • Nexus 7 Launches Today in Japan, The Best Android Tablet Expands to More People

We have said a few times before that if you are looking to get an Android tablet right now, the Nexus 7 is the way to go. Pure Google Experience, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a low price point are just a few of the awesome headlines for this device. Today, Google is launching their creation in Japan, and hoping to tap into a new market.

At an event today, Google’s Eric Schmidt said he was excited for the launch in Japan. That market has the third largest number of Google Play installs in the world, certainly a big market for the Nexus 7. It remains to be seen if the 7″ tablet will take hold in Japan but if it’s past launches are any indication, it should do just fine.

  • The State of Android [Opinion]

Back in January of this year I reviewed the state of Android manufacturers up to that point. In January Samsung was the only major Android OEM that was making any money on Android phones. HTC had posted its first quarterly profit decline in two years while Motorola continued its financial decline amidst regulatory approval of Google’s then-proposed, now-approved purchase of the manufacturer. How is the ecosystem doing nine months into the year?

  • Contest: It’s National Cheeseburger Day – Tell Us Your Favorite Burger, Win a Nexus 7 8GB (Update: Winner Picked)

In case you didn’t know, today is National Cheeseburger Day. To someone like me, a self-proclaimed cheeseburger guru, this is one of the greatest “holidays” of the year, because it means that I’m on my way to gorging myself on the finest burgers that Portland has to offer. But being that I’m in the tech industry and travel quite often to cities across this beautiful country, I’m always on the hunt for the best burger in the next city that I visit. So in the most selfish of ways, I’m using the DL community to find out where your favorite burger spots are, so that if I end up visiting a town near you, I’ll have a list of spots to check out.

But to make it worth your while, I figured we’d give away a Nexus 7 8GB to one of the lucky readers that leaves a comment. Sound good?   (more…)
