• Nexus 7 8GB Marked as “Coming Soon” in Google Play – Sold Out Maybe? (Update: They’re Back!)

As of today, the 8GB version of the Nexus 7 is now marked as “coming soon” in the Google Play store. We’ve seen this once before earlier with the 16GB version that was unavailable for about two weeks, but this is the first time we’ve had the notion that Google may be temporarily sold out of the 8GB variant. Either way, the 16GB version is available for shipping within 3-5 days so if you need a Nexus 7 today, that is your only option.

We’ll see how long this unavailability lasts

Update: Well, it looks as though Google didn’t waste any time in restocking their e-shelves with the 8GB version of the Nexus 7. They are back in stock and selling at the same $200 price. Nice to know we aren’t going to see a rehash of the mishap with the 16GB version as we did earlier last month.

  • Android Build JRO03L ROM Released for Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE and Nexus 7

After hitting the AOSP servers, Android build JRO03L of Jelly Bean has already been turned into a custom ROM that is ready for flashing on the VZW Galaxy Nexus and Google’s Nexus 7 tablet. It’s still Android 4.1.1 and there is no official changelog that we’ve seen yet. If you’re in a flashing mood, simply download this file and flash through ClockworkMod. A wipe is recommended if coming from anything else.

  • Asus Execs Dive Into the Making of the Nexus 7

When Asus unveiled a nameless 7″ quad-core powered tablet at CES this past January that would retail for $249, they not only caught our attention, but more importantly, Google’s. According to a handful of Asus execs that sat down with Forbes, a meeting with Google after showing off their cheap tablet design is what kick-started a 4-month whirlwind project that eventually became the Nexus 7.

According to Benjamin Yeh, the head of Asus UK, there was team and engineer swapping from both companies, supply chain partners contacted, and a massive group effort to get the job done in such a short amount of time.  (more…)

  • Nexus 7 Accessories to Soon Hit the Web – Includes Bluetooth Keyboard Dock, Folio Case and Rotating Stand (Updated)

Update:  These aren’t official and the site that posted them was essentially lying. The accessories are actually from a company called Hip Street. The only official gear for your Nexus 7 is the stuff that leaked earlier in the week.

Well, now that we all have our Nexus 7 tablets, what else is left that we need? Oh, that’s right – accessories! The folks over at Mobile Fun have received details on five accessories that are said to be produced by Asus and that will go on sale through their site in the near future. The products include a folio case, rotating stand, Bluetooth keyboard docking station and case, film screen protector, and a standard stand case.  (more…)

Google’s journey to show new Nexus 7 owners the basics continues on this morning with a few Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) tips and tricks. None of this is highly advanced, but they have taken a minute to highlight face unlock, Google Now, Google Play widgets, and the amazing new notification system. If you want to see the entire list of goodies inside Jelly Bean, you’ll have to hit up this post.

  • Ultimate Rotation Control is Your Ticket to Auto-Rotating Nexus 7 Home Screens

One issue for some, if you can even call it that, with the Nexus 7 and other newly introduced Android devices, is the lack of an auto-rotate option on home screens. While these devices rotate just fine while in an app, there are those that strongly wish to see them also rotate for landscape fun before launching into apps and other activities. Enter Ultimate Rotation Control, an app that has exploded in popularity over the last week thanks to the launching of the Nexus 7. In fact, if you cruise through the comments, you’ll notice that the majority mention Google’s new affordable slate.  (more…)

  • Google Teaches New Nexus 7 Users How to Use Google Now

Google’s video tutorial series for the Nexus 7 continues on with a quick look at what we think is Jelly Bean’s top feature, Google Now. On the N7’s big beautiful 7″ display, you can ask that Google Now track your favorite sports teams, show the weather in your current location, tell you directions and the time it will take to arrive at your next appointment, and always have the quickest route home just a fingertip’s click away.

  • i-BLASON Leather Nexus 7 Case has Auto Sleep/Wake, Multi-Viewing Angles, and Includes a Stylus for $20

Yesterday, we took a look at the official Nexus 7 case and came away impressed by the quality, but a little less impressed by some missing features (auto sleep/wake would be one major feature missing). As one of our readers has pointed out, there are numerous options sold through Amazon, almost all of which include auto sleep/wake. Many are made with premium leather, but some, like the i-BLASON case we have pictured above, also come with a stylus and have viewing angle support, yet manage to land at the same $19.99 price as the official TPU case. If you are dying to get your hands on a case, we have 3 options listed below, but again, Amazon has more than we can list in one post. The official TPU case looks hot with its Nexus logo, however, you may want more from a case than it can give you.

The i-BLASON and Blurex also have Prime shipping available.
