  • Nexus 7 Status Changes to Shipping in “1-2 Weeks”

The Nexus 7 in the Google Play store has been updated this morning to show an estimated shipping period of “1-2 weeks” instead of the “3-4 weeks” it had been at since being announced. With Android 4.1 being pushed to AOSP yesterday, the timing for release couldn’t be more perfect. Since the Nexus 7 is one of the first devices on the planet to have official Jelly Bean, it would seem to make sense that it would hit AOSP and then the device would ship to consumers.

We are also hearing from some that credit cards are either being charged for pre-orders of the device or have at least moved to “pending.” That’s usually a pretty good indicator that things are about to ship.

  • Camera App Shortcut Made Available for Nexus 7 Owners

The MoDaCo development team released an app shortcut to allow Nexus 7 owners access to that powerful front facing shooter anytime they so choose. Previously, only when using apps such as Google+ Hangouts would users even get use out of the camera. Now, you can snap a shot of your pretty mug anytime you would like.

  • How to Force Landscape Tablet UI on the Nexus 7 Tablet

Many noticed that when the first pictures of the Nexus 7 popped up, Google implemented portrait mode through most of the tablet and we think it looks just fine on the 7″, but others may not. After following these instructions, you will basically be running a 10.1″ UI on the 7″ display. We know there are not many of you that have the tablet yet, but if you get the feeling that you will need some landscape goodness when it arrives, this is how to do it. (more…)

  • iFixit Tears Down the Nexus 7, Shows Us All of the Play Packed Inside

iFixit has given the latest and greatest Android tablet, the Nexus 7, the old tear down treatment that they give to all of the new gadgets that come out. • Nexus 7 Sells for $1825 on eBay – Dude Couldn’t Wait 2 Weeks to Spend Only $199?

We see yet-to-be-released products go up for sale on eBay all of the time. It’s just something that happens when people are given free stuff before the general public. In the case of the guy that just bought a Google Nexus 7 for $1825 though, we can’t help but shake our heads. The fact that someone was willing to spend close to $2K on a device that will be here in 2 weeks for $199, has left us 100% speechless. Now, the Nexus 7 is a heck of a little tablet, plus this special edition white version from I/O is extra hot, but it sure as hell isn’t worth $1825. Dude could have gone and almost bought a brand new retina Macbook Pro or something really impressive.  (more…)

  • Nokia Claims Nexus 7 Infringes Upon Some of Their Patents, Will it Ever End?

Hot off the heels of the Galaxy Nexus getting slapped with an injunction, the Nexus 7 is now under attack based on another patent dispute. Nokia is claiming that neither ASUS nor Google asked to use a WiFi patent that the company owns. One would think that the move is more for Nokia to get a cut from the sales of the Nexus 7 rather than a ban on its sale, but that’s tough to tell until things become a bit more official.

Neither Google nor ASUS have responded to the accusation yet, but you can imagine that it isn’t going to go over well. With the Nexus 7 already giving them almost no profit per device, shelling out cash to Nokia won’t be fun. We know many of you are planning on getting a Nexus 7, could you stand to see another Nexus device banned?

Video: Google Nexus 7 Overview and Jelly Bean Walkthrough

The Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean were easily the most notable announcements from Google I/O, last week. Immediately following their unveiling, we went hands-on with Google’s first tablet, but that wasn’t enough and was more of a teaser. While our full review is still a day or two away, we wanted to bring a more in-depth look that we weren’t able to capture while at the conference. Through this walkthrough, we look not only at the device itself, but also a look at Jelly Bean in its tabletish-phone form.

    We hope you enjoy.  (more…)

  • Factory Images Released for the Nexus 7 [JRN84D]

If you were at Google I/O last week, then chances are that you didn’t pass up the chance to pick up a Nexus 7 tablet. If you did, feel free to hack the hell out of it, as Google has already released the factory images for the device. Dropping in as Jelly Bean version JRN84D, will want to keep this tucked away for use later on. We don’t know for sure yet, but these could potentially be used on the retail version of the device that you all pre-ordered for mid-July.
