  • Friday Poll: Did You Order a Nexus 7?

You have had 3 days now to order the Google Nexus 7, did you? We have been using our units from I/O off and on, and are so far more than impressed. It feels like the perfect size, plus it has enough power to be the ultimate gaming machine thanks to that Tegra 3 processor inside. The screen is beautiful, Jelly Bean is beyond awesome, and the build quality makes it feel like something that should cost much more than $199.

Have you seen enough yet to dive in and make the purchase? Are you waiting for more reviews? Let us know.

  • Photo Tour of the Android Floor at Google I/O 2012

The Android floor at Google I/O is always the coolest place at the conference to hangout at. It’s an entire floor of giant Android statues, interactive stations, gadgets, and nerds. This year, it managed to jump up another level in the Coolness Meter because they added Nexus sections which featured not only the Galaxy Nexus, but the newly announced Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus Q media sharing thing-a-ma-jiggy. It’s one of those experiences that we wish all Android enthusiasts could be a part of.

For those not able to attend, we thought that maybe snapping a ton of photos of the place and all of its intricacies would help you understand what we are talking about. Check out the gallery below.  (more…)

  • Google’s Andy Rubin and ASUS’ Jonney Shih Talk About Making the Nexus

Andy Rubin and Jonney Shih, two company heads from Google and ASUS, which came together to make the new Nexus 7 tablet, sat down for an interview with AllThingsD to talk about the process of creating such a unique product. According to Shih, things weren’t all roses and jelly beans. “Our engineers told me it is like torture,” Shih said, “[Google] ask[s] a lot,” in reference to the demanding timelines that were placed on building the N7. Rubin talked about the project going from zero to working product in about four months, saying that he didn’t think any other partner could have done it as fast as ASUS.

Rubin also went on to say that there was a missing piece to Android tablets until this date, the purchasing of movies and magazines. The Nexus 7 is centered around the Play Store and Google is definitely moving forward with that.

The last bit that came from the interview made shock some, and that’s the idea that there is no profit margin on sales of the tablet itself. Clearly, Google plans to make all of its money through Google Play store sales of TV shows, Movies, Magazines, Music and apps. Amazon has gone a similar route with the Kindle Fire.

The whole interview is an interesting read on the development of the first device with Jelly Bean. Are you going to be getting one?

  • Is Google Also Going to Announce the Nexus Q, an Android Media Player?

A reader of ours was poking around the Google Play store this morning and stumbled onto an addendum that lists out some details for two yet-to-be-announced devices from Google, the Nexus 7 tablet and a new device that appears to be some sort of a media center called the Nexus Q. According to the info we have pasted below, the Nexus Q sounds like a media center or player that you can run your phone, tablet, TV or home entertainment system through. It has access to Play Music, Play Movies, and YouTube. It doesn’t necessarily sound like a new Google TV product, but more of a sharing hub. (more…)
