According to Google, Android Wear 2.0 is the “most significant Android Wear update” since the platform launched about two years ago. That’s a bold statement, even for Google. Available later this year in the fall season for everyone, Android Wear 2.0 includes standalone apps that access the web without the help of a smartphone, UI changes to make interactions with a smartwatch better, handwriting input methods, a new Complications API for developers, as well as big changes for the Google Fit platform.
For UI changes, Google has redesigned its app launcher and notifications, making the launching of apps on Android Wear much more timely.ย The system UI also adopts a dark color palette and makes better use of round displays, which is a bonus for owners of the Huawei Watch, Moto 360, and Watch Urbane models. Google also baked in a new handwriting input method, which allows users to essentially draw whatever they want typed, instead of having to speak everything to the smartwatch.
The Complications API for Android Wear 2.0 allows any app to add data directly to a watch face that allows for the API. For example, if you use a 3rd-party watch face, and alsoย have an Android Wear app that shows sports score, you can add a complication to your watch face that shows those sports scores. That’s just an example, though. A complication could be added for weather, stocks, or anything else.
For Google Fit, improvements for the platform make it easier for apps to collect and use fitness data, as well as detect ongoing activity. Developers will also find it easier for their apps to get consistent daily step counts on Android Wear. Thanks to the changes, apps will better detect when a user starts walking, running, or biking.
If you are the type who does not care for waiting until the fall, a developer preview of Android Wear 2.0 has been made available for two devices – the Huawei Watch and LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition. Just like flashing an image to a Nexus phone, the process is very straightforward if your computer is already setup with adb good to go. You can download the necessary images right here.
Exciting, right?

Hey check them out …. they have some cool apps for android wear
http://hostapk.com/
I bought a 360 when it was 99$ on special and sold it for 120 than I bought a SS one for 88$ and keeping it for now. If I didn’t have this one I think the Sony one is a deal
Any word if the original Moto 360 will get this update?
Can’t wait!
Moto 360 3rd gen with NFC and 3G… take my money now!
Some interesting things with the preview image on the LGU2LTE:
1. There is now a counter for syncing items when pairing with a device for the first time (Syncing… x of x) and a new icon at the top of the screen that shows which app is being synced to the watch (a heart icon for Fit; a calc icon for Calculator; etc). Also, the sync seems to be going much faster too. Usually it takes around 10-15 minutes to fully resync all my watch apps and faces. On the preview, it’s taken me about 8 minutes.
2. The watch booted MUCH faster. Even with a new OS, it took about 3 minutes to fully boot to the Sync screen. Previously, it would take about 4-5 minutes to boot after a power down.
3. The new notifications ROCK.
4. I only see the 2 new watch faces (Elements Analog and Digital) and the new Complications (what a horrible name) are pretty cool to play with. All my other watch faces are there and seem to work ok so far.
More to come as I play with this.
I’m really liking the change with notifications.
UGGGHHHHH…. Hardware button REQUIREMENT for functionality… way to go “BACK”-wards Google.
Nowhere has it been said that there is a hardware requirement for back button functionality. The swipe to the right still works in 2.0.
My thoughts:
#1 Love the new quick toggles in the notification shade.
#2 Do not love the new scrolling mechanism… the way they roll around the side isnt very asthetically appealing to me.
#3 Is there a way to keep notifications from overlaying on my watch face? Its so broken looking when I have a text overlaid on my watch face in black and white. Cant read the text OR the watch. Just give me a tiny little blip at the bottom of the watchface or a notification led or something to let me know theres something there, then Ill swipe up when ready. I dont like people reading my texts when they pop up autmatically, and when i glance at my watch I hate when I have to swipe down something just to see the full watch face.
#4 Using the hardware button for both the app drawer, AND the “back” button will inevitably lead to accidental frustrating extra steps. When youre backing out of something, and get all the way to the watch face, one extra tap and youre into your app drawer. These should be separate somehow… maybe a longpress for apps?
It’s amazing how similar this is to the Gear S2… I’ve never been a Sammy fanboy before… but since getting the Galaxy S7edge and Gear S2… I’ve been pretty happy. The devices work very well together and I think Sammy’s Tizen implementation is still ahead of Android Wear and it’s clear from this video that Google is rushing to catch up where Sammy’s developers got first…
Anyone know what device this is being demonstrated on? I don’t recognize it
Nevermind, LG Urbane 2nd Ed
Android Wear is probably the best watch, pretty nice watch faces for Android wear on the link below..

yes for sure noob….. Pujje black watch is much better…. check it out

Why can’t I install this on my 2nd gen 360?
Google can update Android Wear all they want – I would never recommend it to anyone at their current price points. Grab a 1st gen – Android Wear is not that impressive. And yes, I use my Moto 360 every day – but like everyone else here I am a tech enthusiast.
Google makes me scared. … I own a 360 and I believe 2.0 will run on it. If not I make it running. …
When do we get Android Pay?
Exactly!
AP is NFC based. Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn’t that require a hardware redesign to incorporate the NFC antenna? Are there many watches with NFC? Seems like that would be a first step. I heard some noise about Pay enabled watches coming this year, but haven’t investigated much.
Wouldn’t it be awesome to create an NFC patch/ring for the bottom of the watch, that uses watch communications to work with the phone, allowing you to tap and pay with the watch? A man can dream, right?
I think with the simple implementation of an NFC chip in the device, tap to pay would be pretty easy. Or for Samsung, a magnetic “antenna” for Samsung Pay. Or both #FTW. ๐
The Apple Watch has NFC. Ever since that came out I’ve been holding off on upgrading from my LG G Watch R for an Android Wear watch with NFC/Android Pay ๐
Ideally an NFC watch will expose APIs so that my city’s public transport can start supporting it (existing cards are NFC) so I can get on the bus/ferry/subway without needing to take out my wallet.
Any idea what the Apple watch uses it for? My presumption: Apple Pay only?
I thought I read somewhere that a public transit company somewhere in Europe started supporting the Apple Watch but I can’t find it. So maybe it just supports Apple Pay for now. I think since Apple is so stingy with their APIs and don’t expose any to 3rd party apps nobody can make apps using NFC on the watch so nobody is yet badging into the bus with their watch. If Google ever gets NFC support on watches I bet their APIs will be more open to 3rd party apps.
Sure can’t see why it wouldn’t be. Indeed, why isn’t it already? Android has been all kinds of gung ho on NFC… and now that Apple has it, they aren’t? Confused….
YES!!! Maybe Christmas holds my 1st Android Wear watch!
If a sexy enough one comes out, Christmas will hold my 4th.
I’m running a Martian Notifier not-so-smartwatch. But it was $32 so there’s that. But it has only made me want a full smartwatch!
Keep an eye out for deals in the huawei watch (if that’s ur style) I absolutely love mine. Gets compliments almost daily
Any idea when we would see new watches announced? Sony SW 3 still running great but not sure if those watches will continue to be updated. I don’t see why they shouldn’t though. This software shouldn’t require new hardware like phones.
We’ll see if it’s time to get back on this bandwagon. I stopped using my Moto 360 about a year ago
A Nexus wearable (whether fitness tracker and/or watch) would be much appreciated.
wait, but all Android Wear watches are nexus? Google requires that android wear remain stock android wear on all devices.
I meant wear Google would have input on hardware.
Wow this is a Massive improvement. As someone that has been using Wear since launch these are exactly the changes it was needing .
What watch you using? If I had known this was for Huawei i would of brought my charger and ran the install at work. now i gotta wait until i get home…
What’s the difference between preview and non preview?
One is final, one is not.
So what one to use? Preview?
Smart ass answer is smart ๐
One is M (current), one is N.
None of this is answering my question. Which one to use on huawei watch. Preview or non preview.
Preview is the non-final version. If you aren’t sure, stick with your current version until Android Wear 2.0 is pushed to stable (final)
Not to be that guy, but the general rule is if you don’t know what it is, don’t venture down that road. Previews (Alphas if really early or betas when nearly complete) have bugs and glitches that may hinder performance or overall experience. If you’re willing to live with that experience (the potential for glitches and the like; some worse than others but still unpredictable) then try the preview if and when it hits. If you need it to absolutely function fault-free, wait for the final (non-preview) version.
I wonder if the OG 360 is getting this.
RIP OG 360
You mean RIP Motorola.

Moto was already dead. My 360 still kick’n it! For now…
My 360 (1st gen) wont pair with S7 edge.
Mine pairs no problem, should work fine
Odd. Mine has paired fine with my M7, G4 and 6P.
Crap, mine will barely even turn on anymore. I’ll pull it off the charger, it won’t connect to my 6P, I’ll restart it and it will literally shut off after 10 minutes as if the battery is dead. Worthless.
Mine was the same after 10 months, Google did a replacement free of charge for me, even cross shipped the devices. Good experience overall.
Would be awesome and kind of impressive it’s still supported. The last update I’m not too fond of, but it has legitimately gotten better after each update. Anxious to see what the new update will be like on that old processor.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t get it.
Every Android Wear watch has received every single update to date, so I don’t see why this would be any different.
Because Motovo sucks…. that’d be my first guess..
hmm
While that is a little trolling on my part…..Im also a former Moto fan to the point that I recommended the 360, the X, the G and the newest Droid phones to multiple people….and I own the X 2nd Gen and the 360 1st gen. Since the change over to Lenovo, customer service has tanked, they dropped update support for the X 2nd Gen and they are now dropping the X line completely. On top of that they canned all of the people that made the X what it is today…. I am finding it very difficult to say anything positive about Motovo… All that said…if they do something awesome with the pogo pins on the next one….at least they are being innovative…..but if its just another iteration of what LG did with the G5…….an extra battery……a grip and dedicated shutter button? Hard Pass.
fair enough and thanks for the honesty haha. I am a bit of a moto fan, but I only have 2 moto products. My Nexus 6 and moto 360 (1st gen). I get your point though….but they are not dropping the X line, just changing to Z.
I get your points though, so touche. I dont think they suck, their products are great and usually priced great…so like they say, you get what you pay for, ya know?
I am still a Moto fan…Im decidedly not a fan of Motovo. As for the X to Z….my guess is that they want to differentiate between the one with pogos and without….but that will likely mean they wont be quite as competitively priced as previous versions….Its probably why they came up with a step up Moto G this iteration…to partially fill in the gap between the G and the Z where the X once stood. But thats just a guess. I long for the days of Motorola and the 1st Gen X…..when they lead the way in budget, pure android and direct to consumer customization….. but maybe thats just the old guy in me talking… btw…really? actual for real Howard Stern peruses droid-life?
Genius and I hate you for it LOL
Perhaps because Lenovo sucks, they are blowing out Gen-1 360’s everywhere these days and that crusty old TI OMAP SoC in the 360…If any Android Wear watches get left behind I can guarantee it’ll be the first-gen 360 and the Sony Smartwatch 3.
Google controls android wear updates right?
Thats a really great point…..I think if memory serves, you are right… Its the one thing they still control… (though i dont know how)
Doubt it. This update seems internet access sans smartphone attached friendly.
But maybe Moto 360 3rd gen??
